Governor announces additional COVID leave

Dear Colleagues,

Governor Newsom announced earlier yesterday that his office had reached an agreement with Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon to restore the much-needed Covid-19 sick leave to California workers.

The deal worked out by the Governor’s office would give as much as two weeks of sick leave to those impacted by the virus. The leave would also be extended to those taking time off to get vaccinated or experiencing vaccine-related side effects. This leave would be retroactive to January 1, 2022 and extended through September 30 of this year.

We feel confident the Chancellor’s office will make a similar announcement in the coming weeks. APC thanks all of those who have written letters or signed a petition to our state lawmakers urging them to restore this leave. We will keep you informed of any developments in this important matter.

In Union,
APC Executive Board
