Dear Unit 4 Colleagues,
Your annual Budget Shortfall Mitigation (BSM) Bonus is coming!
Each year around this time, eligible Unit 4 employees receive their annual BSM Bonus. Did you know this benefit exists because APC members made decisions more than 20 years ago through collective bargaining?
More than 20 years ago, during the 2000–2003 contract negotiations, APC negotiated a dedicated bonus fund of more than $1.1 million. That decision laid the foundation for the bonus programs that continue benefiting Unit 4 employees today. Additional funds negotiated in 2005 and 2006 further strengthened these programs.
Think about that: A decision made more than two decades ago still puts money in Unit 4 employees’ pockets today.
These benefits did not happen by accident. They result from collective bargaining and the commitment of APC members who invested in their colleagues’ future.
Your 2025/2026 BSM Bonus
APC is pleased to share information about this year’s BSM Bonus:
- Bonus Amount: $198.60 for eligible full-time employees, prorated for part-time employees
- Eligibility: Eligible Unit 4 employees in active or on leave status as of May 1, 2026
- Payment Date: Before November 1, 2026
- Chancellor’s Office Technical Letter: CSU BSM Tech Letter
If you do not receive your bonus by the announced payment deadline, please contact your APC campus steward.
Yesterday’s Members Made This Possible
As APC recently concluded negotiations with the CSU and reached a new tentative agreement, we are reminded that the benefits we enjoy today did not happen by accident.
They are the result of generations of APC members who stood together, made important decisions, and fought for better compensation, benefits, and working conditions. The BSM Bonus is proof that decisions made at the bargaining table can benefit employees for decades.
Not an APC Member Yet? Now Is the Time to Join!
Whether you have been a Unit 4 employee for 20 years or just started your CSU career, you benefit from APC’s work and the members who came before you.
You benefit from collective bargaining. Why not have a voice in the decisions that shape your future?
Only dues-paying APC members can vote on the tentative agreement. We encourage you to join APC, participate in the ratification vote, and help us continue building on the accomplishments of those who came before us.
JOIN APC TODAY AND MAKE YOUR VOICE COUNT!
Our union’s strength comes from our members. The more members who stand together, the stronger our collective voice becomes at the bargaining table.
Yesterday’s APC members invested in our future. Today, we benefit from their decisions. Tomorrow’s benefits depend on the choices we make together.
In Solidarity,
Your APC Executive Board
