Lobby Days 2023 was an amazing opportunity to raise awareness of the issues affecting staff at the CSU. A lot of the legislative teams we met with did not know that CSU employees are the only state employees that do not receive a cost-of-living adjustment or salary steps. Partnering with CSUEU was an amazing opportunity to leverage the 20,000 workers we represent together. As a first-time attendee, I appreciated being with both CSUEU and APC colleagues that have done this before, as well as other new people that had passion to advocate for change.
As a collective, we were able to meet with over 100 legislative teams (out of 120 there are) to discuss salary steps for CSU employees, reform and accountability for Title IX, and allowing student assistants to vote for collective bargaining. I see this as a huge win since the CSU has demonstrated it is not serious to advancing equity as a system. I hope that as negotiations continue that the CSU knows APC is serious when advocate for our members.
